HAIR CARE AND COLD CAP USE
During a course of chemo with the simultaneous use of cold caps, the hair can become dry and tend to tangle. It is therefore extra important to take good care of your hair during this period! No chemicals, hair dye, hair dryers, curling irons or straighteners. Use shampoo without phosphates and with a pH value as close to the skin's as possible. For use during your course of chemo with cold caps, we recommend these products .
CARE FOR YOUR HAIR
Take care of your hair when you sleep! Get a silk pillowcase, whose smooth surface protects your hair from wear and tear. This 100% silk cover is a great choice. The first 3 days after each chemo, your scalp and hair should be at rest. Avoid washing your hair and only comb your hair carefully without touching the scalp.
Approximately 12-14 days after starting chemo, most people experience that their scalp starts to itch. It is the chemo that is irritating. The best advice is not to itch back – it is completely normal and it will pass.

SHEDDING
During the cold cap process, most people will experience significantly more hair loss than normal. The loss will depend on the type of chemo and the order of these. For some, the loss starts as early as 2-3 weeks into the chemo course, for others it takes 5-6 weeks. You should expect to lose from 20% up to 50% of your hair, but evenly distributed. We already lose 100-200 hairs a day, which few people give a thought to. It is completely different during a cold cap process, where everything is about hair. Take a photo of your hair daily or weekly to follow the process. Everyone will therefore experience thinning of the hair, but usually evenly distributed. The parting may seem a little wider and the hair will feel different, but those around you will usually not notice any difference. Approximately 1 month into the chemo course, it can be assessed whether the cold caps have the desired effect. If the amount and appearance of the hair is satisfactory at that time, the use of cold caps are continued during the rest of the chemo course.
It is not possible to predict for whom the cold cap method will work. The type of chemo, pre-existing disease, hair structure and age are some of the factors that can influence. In the following international randomized studies, the method works for over 80% and after 1.5-2 months of use, you will know if it works for you.

"I'm just so happy and grateful that after 16 rounds of chemo I have so much hair left. If I had gone bald, it would have taken 8-10 years before it would have grown back to the same length."
Carina, 32 years old
